01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Payaut was an Amsterdam fintech founded in late 2019 by payment veterans Ernst van Niekerk and Gillis Haasnoot (ex-Adyen). It built an automated payment solution for online platforms and marketplaces — split payments, seller KYC verification, balance management and multi-PSP routing (Adyen, Stripe, Mollie) — and acted as a licensed virtual payment institute so marketplaces could comply with PSD2 without obtaining their own license from the Dutch central bank (DNB), which it received in July 2021.
