01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Tidelift was a Boston-based developer platform company that made open source software work better for enterprises. It sold a managed open source subscription covering application dependencies across JavaScript, Python, Java, PHP, Ruby, .NET and more, and uniquely paid the maintainers of the open source packages its customers relied on in exchange for maintenance, security and lifecycle assurances. The company raised $73.5 million across four rounds, including a $15 million Series A in 2018, and was acquired by Sonar in 2025.
