01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Fundid was a US fintech platform helping small and micro-businesses, initially focused on women owners, access capital. It offered a grant marketplace, a capital marketplace for micro-loans, and a Business-Building charge card that extended credit based on business performance rather than personal guarantees or credit scores. The company raised a $3.25 million seed round in May 2022 led by Nevcaut Ventures with The Artemis Fund and Builders and Backers.

02 / Fundid FAILURE REASONS

Failure factors

founder Stefanie Sample said rising Fed rates (11 hikes 2022–2023) broke Fundid’s debt-facility economics (SOFR-plus), so the business credit card became unprofitable; she rescinded a $2M raise, returned capital, and wound the company down rather than dilute further on a broken model.

Macro Interest Rates

Founder stated rising SOFR-linked debt-facility costs after Fed rate hikes made the card product uneconomic.

Unit Economics

Capital cost exceeded fees Fundid could charge, so the company would effectively pay customers to use the product.

Cap Table Constraints

Founder said further collateral/equity asks would have given outsiders the company and left the cap table too messy to pivot.
