01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
OSIMple (legal name BigBridge Technologies Inc.) was a Y Combinator W18 startup building mobile-first software for bridge inspectors. Co-founders Amanda Chan and Mike Miller had seen, through contacts in their university's civil engineering department, that inspectors used pen, paper and cameras on site and typed up reports back at the office. OSIMple replaced the paper stacks with tablets and generated completed inspection forms as PDFs, claiming to save inspectors nearly half their inspection time; it was used on over 400 bridges and later expanded to home inspectors.
