01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Thing Technologies was a Frankfurt proptech startup founded in 2015 by serial entrepreneur Marc Gille (originally in Brooklyn, later moved to Frankfurt). Its Thing-it platform let building owners and operators configure digital workplace experiences: space booking, utilization analytics and sharing/rightsizing concepts for hybrid work. Customers included ASML, BASF, Deloitte, Hapag-Lloyd, Rolls-Royce, UCB and Oxford University — BASF reportedly cut workplaces based on its insights and saved €5M a year. In 2025-2026 the company was acquired by Norway's MazeMap, renamed MazeMap GmbH and folded into the MazeMap Workplace brand, with 28 employees as of 2026.
