01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Fig was a San Francisco developer-tools startup founded in 2020 by Brendan Falk and his co-founder, backed by Y Combinator, General Catalyst, Datadog CEO Olivier Pomel, Eventbrite founder Kevin Hartz, and ex-GitHub CTO Jason Warner. It set out to turbo-charge the command-line terminal with IDE-like features — chiefly 'autocomplete,' which provided customizable suggestions and descriptions of the next action as developers typed. Fig raised a little north of $2 million, offered a free tier plus paid plans for teams and enterprises, and counted users at Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. In August 2023, Amazon acquired Fig's technology and the entire team joined AWS.
