01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Rooam was a contactless payment platform for the hospitality industry, founded in 2015 in Los Angeles. Its app let guests open, view and pay bar tabs or restaurant bills from their phones without new hardware at the venue, integrating directly with major POS systems. It promised walk-out and chargeback protection for establishments, and counted partners such as Resy, Tock, Live Nation and TAO Group. Co-founder and CTO Junaid Shams built the company to make paying for a night out as seamless as using the venue's own register.
