01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Molmo is a family of open-source multimodal AI models launched by the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2), not a conventional startup. Built on vision-language foundations, the models combine visual, textual and audio understanding for tasks such as agentic web interaction, robotics, image captioning, medical imaging analysis and education. Ai2 described Molmo as going beyond perception and communication to enable models to act in their worlds. No company failure, shutdown or acquisition is associated with Molmo; it is an ongoing open-source research project.
