01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Dressd was a peer-to-peer clothing rental marketplace founded by Capri Wheaton, a UC Berkeley dropout. Positioned as a more efficient, more scalable rival to Rent the Runway, it let women list dresses from their own closets for rent instead of selling them: owners uploaded photos and descriptions, renters browsed the app and website, and both parties were emailed shipping and return labels for two-week rentals. Dressd was backed by Y Combinator and Starting Line VC, and was a pivot from Wheaton's earlier 'Shopify for Instagram sellers' startup Thryft.
