01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Ubanku was a Colombian neobank for young people, founded in Bogota in 2014 (previously known as Enlau/EnlaU, a student-economy platform whose entrepreneurship courses reached some 150,000 Colombian students). Repositioned as a 'financial guru' for Gen Z, it aimed to bundle the products and services young people need into one consumption-and-learning experience: an educational investment platform where users set goals, a digital wallet, and financing solutions for students. In late 2022 it closed a $1 million pre-seed round (Newtopia VC, Irie VC, Entrepreneur First, SOSV and angels including executives from PayU, Google and IBM) to launch the neobank in 2023. PitchBook records the company as Out of Business.
