Mindstrong
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mindstrong developed smartphone-based mental-health indicators and later provided remote therapy and care services.
02 / Mindstrong FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Mindstrong raised $160 million in venture capital but could not make its economics work. Founded as a digital-biomarker company that inferred mental health signals from smartphone behavior, it pivoted to app-based mental health care delivery, a business where patients and payers were unwilling to pay the prices needed to sustain the operation. Several pivots, high executive turnover and a deteriorating funding environment in 2022-2023 left it unable to secure new capital, and it wound down patient services in early 2023.
