01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Screenhero was a San Francisco Y Combinator startup founded in 2012 by co-founder and CEO Jahanzeb Sherwani. It specialized in voice, video and screen sharing built for remote pair programming — letting users talk to each other and access each other's screens for editing with very low lag, positioned as a sharper alternative to WebEx. Its pricing started at $11 per user per month. In January 2015, Slack acquired Screenhero in an undisclosed cash-and-stock deal; all six employees joined Slack, and Screenhero's functionality was integrated into Slack while the standalone product was phased out.
