01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Theonys (formerly Theon Therapeutics) was a Cambridge, Massachusetts patient-focused drug discovery company founded in 2020 by Nick Davis and Pete Dedon (MIT), Richard Gregory (Harvard) and Tom Begley (UAlbany) — world experts in tRNA network biology. It built the world's first end-to-end 'tRNA Operating System' (tOS) to discover CONTEXT Controllers: small-molecule modulators that pharmacologically program the translation of disease-causing proteins across oncogenic pathways, targeting cancer, chronic inflammation and rare immunometabolic disease. It raised $13.37M, backed by Leaps (Bayer), Xora Innovation (Temasek), Humboldt Fund, Emerson Collective and Alexandria Venture Investments, with 11+ employees.
