01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
GroupAhead, founded in San Francisco in 2013 by ex-Googlers Brian Glick and Julian Frumar, was a Y Combinator-backed (Winter 2015) platform that gave member-based organizations their own dedicated, self-branded mobile app. Groups such as clubs and societies used it for basic administration: maintaining a member list, keeping a calendar of events, enabling discussions, sharing announcements and collecting membership fees, with push notifications cutting through the noise of email. It launched into pilot testing in mid-2014 and had around 16 apps live on the app stores.
