01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Sense Biodetection was a UK molecular diagnostics company headquartered in Cambridge (with operations in Milford, Massachusetts). It built Veros, an instrument-free rapid molecular test platform using proprietary amplification chemistries and disposable hardware — point-of-care diagnostics with the speed of an antigen test (about 15 minutes) but PCR-level accuracy (97.9%). Veros COVID-19 received its CE Mark in March 2022 with strong clinical performance in sensitivity and specificity, launching country by country across Europe and South America to enthusiastic distributor uptake. Investors included Cambridge Innovation Capital; the company raised about $81.5 million.
