01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Brave Care was a Portland, Oregon-based pediatric healthcare company founded by Dr. Corey Fish, Darius Monsef (a serial founder previously of COLOURlovers, Creative Market and Sightbox), Maryam Taheri and Asa Miller. A Y Combinator company, it built a modern pediatric primary and urgent care platform: kid-friendly clinics with kid-sized instruments, its own full-stack technology including an electronic health records system and a Brave Care Parent mobile app, plus 24/7 remote care through a Nurse Line. The pitch was an option between the regular doctor and the emergency room, open 10am-10pm 365 days a year. The company raised $43 million in total - a $5 million seed in 2019, a $10 million Series A in 2021 led by City Light Capital, and a $25 million Series B in 2021 led by Mednax - and operated clinics in Portland, Fayetteville (North Carolina) and Austin (Texas).
