01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
AuroraQ (Aurora Quantum Technologies, formerly QSpice Labs) was a quantum hardware startup founded by Mohammadreza Rezaee and Raina Olsen — a husband-and-wife team with PhDs in physics. Based in Waterloo, Ontario (originally founded in Toronto), it developed modular quantum components toward a practical integrated quantum computer — described as aiming to be the "Dell of quantum computing" — including a quantum repeater designed to send encrypted messages as photons over long distances for the quantum internet. It was an alumni of Y Combinator's Winter 2019 batch and Creative Destruction Labs.
