What the company did
PetExpert, founded in Prague in 2018 by Derek Cummins and Jan Moravec, was a fully digital pet health insurance provider for cats and dogs — the first truly online pet insurer in the Czech Republic. Its Microsoft award-winning, AI-assisted platform could settle claims in seconds, paying veterinarians directly. Backed by Venture Club, it became the online pet-insurance leader at home, served tens of thousands of policyholders, and expanded into Slovakia and later Belgium. In November 2022 it was acquired by US pet insurer Trupanion to anchor its European expansion.
