01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Opzi was a Palo Alto startup founded in 2010 by Euwyn Poon (Cornell graduate at 18, J.D. 2007, ex-M&A lawyer), backed by Y Combinator. It built a Quora-like question-and-answer platform for businesses: employees logged in with a corporate email to ask and answer questions, building a crowd-sourced FAQ that the company pitched as a better form of enterprise search - 'a search engine that helps people solve a problem' rather than digging through databases. It raised nearly $1 million from SV Angel, First Round Capital, Naval Ravikant, SoftTech VC, Paul Buchheit and others.

03 / EVENT HISTORY

Events in the structured record

  1. Founded and launched

Opzi was founded in 2010 as a stealth Y Combinator startup; it debuted its enterprise Q&A platform at TechCrunch Disrupt in September 2010 after raising nearly $1 million in angel funding.

  2. Wound down

The standalone enterprise Q&A product was wound down around 2013; Opzi's technology lived on as the software platform behind First Round Capital's First Round Network, and founder Euwyn Poon moved on (he became a partner at Moso Capital in January 2014 and later founded scooter company Spin).
