01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Hitpost was a San Francisco sports-app startup founded in spring 2009 by Aaron Krane, who had learned social-game design at Slide. It built a next-generation sports network and a series of mobile apps: the social sports-betting game Sports Bet (ranked #3 in the iOS App Store sports category, 1-5 million installs on Google Play), which let fans make virtual-currency bets on games and players, and Fantasy Football Polls for instant fantasy feedback on drafts and trades. The 7-person company raised more than $2 million from Floodgate, Khosla Ventures, RRE Ventures and Quotidian Ventures; Courtland Alves (ex-Crowdstar) joined as CEO in 2013 while Krane moved to executive chairman.
