01 / WHAT IT BUILT

A collaborative product-design platform

InVision provided digital tools for product-design collaboration, prototyping, and design-system work.

02 / Invision FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

InVision lost the market it once owned to Figma's collaborative all-in-one platform: UXTools surveys show its share as a main prototyping tool fell from 63% in 2017 to about 23% in 2020, with the user base shrinking steadily afterward. Long-standing complaints about buggy features in DSM, InVision Studio and Craft Manager plugins, a lack of reaction to the shifting market, and feature bloat that diluted the core experience left the company unable to keep up. In November 2023 its Freehand visual-collaboration product was acquired by Miro, and on January 4, 2024 CEO Michael Shenkman announced the design collaboration services would be discontinued by the end of 2024.
