01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Sona (later renamed Sonu) was an artist-centric music streaming platform co-founded by Grammy-nominated DJ/producer TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) and CEO Laura Jaramillo. Combining free ad-free streaming with a web3 marketplace, it let artists auction 'digital twins' (SONAs) of songs — one owner per song, who receives 70% of that song's streaming rewards — aiming to fix streaming economics so artists keep more of the value their music creates. It raised $6.9 million in seed funding led by Polychain Capital, with Haun Ventures and Rogue Capital.
