What the company did
Instagram is a photo- and video-sharing social network founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Originally launched as a location check-in app called Burbn, it pivoted to simple mobile photo sharing with filters and launched publicly in October 2010. It grew to tens of millions of users within 18 months and was acquired by Facebook in 2012, becoming one of the world's largest social platforms. It is included here because it was acquired, not because it failed.
