01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Tenta was a Seattle startup founded in 2016 by Jesse Adams, Jennifer McEwen and Christopher O'Connell, the trio behind the adult-app store MiKandi. Its flagship product, Tenta Browser, was a private Android browser built from the ground up for privacy: built-in true VPN, complete encryption of browsing history, files, bookmarks and media behind a user PIN, DNS-over-TLS (one of the first public DNS resolvers to support it), and 'Zones' that pinned groups of tabs to a chosen VPN location. The company had 100,000 active users and 16 employees in 2019, selling Tenta Pro for $1 a month.
