01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Kantum Pharma was a privately held biopharmaceutical company founded in 2016 in New Hampshire, based on the pioneering work of scientific founder Dr. Sylvie Breton's laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. It developed therapies to prevent or reduce inflammation initiated through the UDP-glucose/P2Y14 purinergic receptor signaling pathway in organs such as the kidneys, lungs and female reproductive tract. Its lead small-molecule program, KB-1801, was shown preclinically to reduce renal inflammation and was developed for prevention of acute kidney injury, including cardiac surgery-associated AKI. Investors included Broadview Ventures and private individuals; the company raised about $3.5 million.
