01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Reble (reble.fm) was a Y Combinator Summer 2007 startup founded by Nick Meyer that made free desktop software for streaming music from friends' computers. Built on the open-source Jabber instant-messaging platform, the Windows-only client hooked into a friend's iTunes or music library so you could stream songs from anyone online on your contact list — a one-to-one P2P system where inviting more friends grew the shared library. It launched in public beta on February 5, 2008.
