01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mochi Media was a San Francisco-based browser games network founded in 2005 by Jameson Hsu and Bob Ippolito, with the mission of fueling indie game developers' creativity. It gave Flash developers tools for in-game advertising, micro-transactions and leaderboards, and at its peak reached more than 140 million monthly active users across 15,000 games on nearly 40,000 publisher websites. In 2010 it was acquired by Shanda Games for $80 million; its parent dissolved the business and all services ceased on March 31, 2014.
