01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
eSnips was an Israeli startup that ran a content-centric social network for digital media. Users uploaded photos, videos, and documents, tagged them, and shared them inside interest-based communities called MicroPortals, which also let members sell digital content. The free service bundled cloud storage (1 GB at launch, later 5 GB) with social features such as comments, ratings, and embeddable music widgets for independent artists.
02 / eSnips FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors
The planned funding round collapsed after the founding CEO left. Copyright pressure, reduced traffic and disrupted product work added to the strain, leaving the company seeking a distressed sale.
