01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Pesto, founded in San Francisco in 2020 by James Savoldelli (Y Combinator Winter 2021), was a fintech in asset-backed consumer credit. Its first product, the Pesto Mastercard issued by Continental Bank, let customers pledge valuables as collateral to secure a credit card — a digital take on pawn lending positioned as an alternative to high-cost pawn loans. The company later extended its own credit infrastructure into a business-to-business platform enabling other brands to launch and manage secured credit card programs.
