01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Highbrow was a London-based subscription video-on-demand platform of educational videos for children ages 1-11. Its library of over 5,000 (later over 12,000) titles covered arts and crafts, science experiments, phonics, ballet and foreign languages, ad-free and curated by educators. Machine-learning recommendation algorithms personalised each child's feed by age and interest. It was picked by Apple as App of the Day within five months of launch and was used in hundreds of schools worldwide. PitchBook lists the company as out of business.
