01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Parallel Universe (paralleluniverse.co) was a developer-tools startup founded in April 2012 in Tel Aviv by Dafna Presler and Ron Pressler, and backed by Y Combinator's Summer 2012 batch with a seed round from YC and Initial Capital. It set out to let developers fully exploit hardware power: first with SpaceBase, a spatial in-memory database aimed at enabling Matrix-style MMO games, later with an open-source server-side JVM stack (Comsat, Quasar) for lightweight fiber-based concurrency, letting developers write straightforward multi-threaded code without more servers.
