01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Membo was an Estonian grocery-delivery startup launched in December 2020 and backed by Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch. Co-founded by Vahur Hansen (an early TransferWise engineer) and Paula Kink, it built a next-day grocery app for premium customers: a virtual farmers' market where local food producers sell directly to consumers, with Membo handling delivery logistics and billing on a commission model. Live in Tallinn and Tartu, it had delivered over 4,000 orders by August 2021 and said it was growing 30% month-on-month. Its pre-seed backers included the CEO and VP of growth of Bolt and Hansen's former TransferWise colleagues. No dated shutdown or acquisition event was found.
