01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Fanhouse was a Walnut, California-based creator monetization platform founded in 2020 by Rosie Nguyen (creator @jasminericegirl) and co-founders. A safe-for-work, Patreon-style subscription social network, it let online creators share behind-the-scenes glimpses of their lives and engage their closest fans through paid subscriptions — with a ~95/5 revenue split in creators' favor. The company raised $34.3 million in total, including a $20 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in 2022, and counted The Chainsmokers among its users and backers. On July 14, 2023, Fanhouse was acquired by Passes, a newer fan-funding startup founded by Lucy Guo, with creators offered an opt-in migration to Passes pages.
