The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Humn.ai was a London-based insurtech founded in 2017, building real-time, data-driven fleet insurance under its RideShur platform: behavioral-science models on driver, vehicle and contextual data helped fleet operators reduce road risk and manage insurance costs. In 2021 it acquired managing general agent Walsingham Motor Insurance Limited (WMIL) and raised a £10.1 million Series A led by BXR Group and Shell Ventures, bringing total funding to about $23 million.

05 / CAUSAL CHAIN
How the factors connect
- 01
Match the balance sheet to the business model: an MGA/insurer needs capital reserves, not just venture funding.
- 02
Keep the burn rate survivable when follow-on funding is uncertain; Humn exhausted all options before administration.
- 03
When restructuring, move early on asset sales: Humn's profitable WMIL subsidiary was sold by administrators, not by the company at a chosen price.
