01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
ThreatX is a Denver, Colorado web application and API protection (WAAP) platform co-founded in 2014 by Bret Settle and Andrius Useckas, both formerly of BMC. Its cloud-native platform uses kill-chain-based behavioral profiling to identify and neutralize threats — web app attacks, API abuse, DDoS, bots and zero-days — with risk-based blocking that cuts the false positives of legacy WAFs, plus fully-managed Protection-as-a-Service. Customers have included Lenovo, BMC, Epsilon, Denver Health and Kroenke Sports. Led by CEO Gene Fay (appointed 2020), it raised $52M across rounds from Harbert Growth Partners, .406 Ventures, Vistara Growth, Grotech Ventures and Access Venture Partners.
