01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Omnity was a San Francisco-based startup, founded in 2015 and led by co-founder and CEO Brian Sager, that built a semantic-mapping search and discovery engine for researchers. Instead of keywords and links, it found connections between documents based on rare shared words, claiming it could compare many millions of documents in a fraction of a second to reveal hidden patterns across science, finance, law, engineering and medicine. The National Science Foundation provided initial funding, and the company claimed 120 patents.
