01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Brsk was a UK alternative broadband provider launched in 2020, building its own full-fibre (FTTP) network using Openreach physical-infrastructure-access ducting. It sold symmetrical full-fibre broadband with speeds up to 1Gbps to homes in the North of England and the Midlands — West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and parts of London — and raised roughly $199 million of equity and debt.

02 / Brsk FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Brsk's end was consolidation, not insolvency. Building fibre networks is brutally capital-intensive, and the UK altnet boom produced overlapping builds in a price war with Openreach incumbents. In June 2024 Brsk merged with Netomnia under Substantial Group; in March 2026 the brand was retired and customers moved to YouFibre — a wave culminating in nexfibre's agreed £2B acquisition, still under competition review.
