01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Socialbrowse was a Y Combinator startup co-founded by Zachary Garbow and David Fowler, described as 'Twitter for links.' It was a Firefox extension that made browsing social: a real-time sidebar showed links and comments shared by friends, with a Follow system for link sharers and embedded profile icons marking shared links on the pages themselves. It launched in private beta in June 2008 and reported over 5,000 users by early 2009, with plans for a browser-neutral, platform version that never materialized.
