01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Kinnek was a buyer-led B2B marketplace that connected small and medium businesses with suppliers of supplies they needed. Instead of suppliers listing goods, SMB owners submitted a request-for-quote with item specifications, and vendors on the platform responded with quotes the buyer could compare; the platform's algorithm alerted the suppliers most likely to carry the requested goods. In September 2014 it raised $10 million led by Matrix Partners, with existing investors including Sierra Ventures, Version One Ventures, Naval Ravikant, CrunchFund, Richard Chen, TriplePoint Ventures and Benjamin Ling.
