01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Phosphorus was a New York City computational-genomics company founded in 2016 by Alexander Bisignano and Santiago Munne, the co-founders of Recombine (sold to CooperSurgical for $85 million). It built a genomic data network and medical-grade genetic tests: HeartMap, LipidMap and, for consumers, GeneCompass ($249, analysing 400+ genes for cancer risk, disease predisposition and drug response). During COVID it pivoted to at-home saliva testing (FDA EUA June 2020), then shut the COVID business in January 2022 to focus on preventive genomics. It raised about $18 million (a $10 million Series A led by FirstMark Capital).
