Satori Finance
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Satori Finance was a decentralized perpetual futures exchange led by co-founders Rahim Noorani (previously at Goldman Sachs and Scale Ventures) and George Wu (previously at Optiver). Built on an off-chain aggregation and on-chain settlement design, it combined the security and transparency of a decentralized exchange with the speed and usability of a centralized one. Traders could take leveraged positions up to 25x on perpetual futures across multiple networks, including Polygon zkEVM, zkSync Era, Scroll, Linea, Base, Arbitrum and X Layer. It raised a $10 million seed round in May 2022 with participation from Polychain Capital, Coinbase Ventures and Jump Crypto, and later cleared over $125 billion in lifetime trading volume.
02 / Satori Finance FAILURE REASONS
Why it failed
On June 16, 2026, Satori announced it would wind down operations, citing prolonged unfavorable market conditions and revenue too thin to sustain the platform. The team stressed there were no hacks or lost customer funds and gave users a one-month window — until July 16, 2026 — to close positions and withdraw assets. The closure underscored the difficult economics of mid-tier DeFi perpetuals venues: despite blue-chip venture backing, fee compression and total value locked dwindling to around $1.2 million left no margin to keep the infrastructure running.

05 / AFTERMATH
Lessons
Satori's clean wind-down — no hacks, no lost funds, a clear withdrawal window — set a reasonable standard for DeFi exits. Its deeper lesson is that trading volume alone does not guarantee protocol sustainability: with fee compression and liquidity concentrated on a few dominant venues, even a $10 million-backed perp DEX with $125 billion in lifetime volume could not earn its keep.
