01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Next One's On Me (NOOM) was an Austin-based mobile gifting app founded in 2012 by Sara Rodell and Jeffrey Schwartz. It let users send a friend a treat — like a coffee or beer — from a local Austin outlet without having to buy it in person. The app went live in March 2012, but most users turned out to be from outside the redeemable area. The founders later pivoted the business into Loop & Tie, a curated corporate gifting service with artisan-made products, removing the locational restraint.
