02 / AOptix Technologies FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
After 15 years, AOptix abruptly shut down in February 2016, putting its Campbell headquarters up for auction and laying off all employees. The company had raised about $114 million, but its free-space-optics backhaul equipment was expensive and slow to gain carrier adoption; the biometrics business could not carry the whole company. Unable to secure additional financing, the firm liquidated its assets; its biometrics portfolio was later acquired by Anviz Global.
