01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Reduced Energy Microsystems (REM) was a San Francisco fabless semiconductor startup founded in 2015 by Eleazar Vega-Gonzalez, William Koven and Dylan Hand. Accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2015 batch as the accelerator's first chip startup, it designed ultra-low-power asynchronous processors for embedded computer vision and AI at the edge, targeting cameras, drones, wearables and robots. It built a real asynchronous chip under a $300,000 customer contract and raised a $2 million seed round from Draper Associates.
