01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
EarlyBird was a Chicago-based family investing app founded in 2019 by Jordan Wexler and Caleb Frankel. It let parents open custodial (UGMA) investment accounts for their children, which family and friends could collectively fund as gifts — attaching digital memories like notes, photos, and videos in a 'digital time capsule' alongside the money. The investments would become the child's at age 18. The company raised about $10.9 million in total, including a $2.4 million round led by Network Ventures, a $4 million seed round led by Seven Seven Six, and a $4.5 million seed extension in late 2023 that was partially crowdfunded by its own users.
