01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Kicksend was a Mountain View-based mobile photo sharing and printing startup founded in 2011 by Pradeep Elankumaran and Brendan Lim, part of Y Combinator's Summer 2011 batch. It started as dead-simple, no-size-limit file sharing, then pivoted to mobile photo sharing and printing: users could share full-resolution photos and order prints from their phones at over 20,000 retail locations (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Target) with one-hour pickup or home delivery. It raised $1.8 million in seed funding led by True Ventures in November 2011 and was acquired in April 2016.
