01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Pan American Drone was a young drone startup founded by CEO Leah LaSalla. It built drones designed to detect loaded firearms and, if needed, get between an active shooter and a potential victim — 'stop bullets' by detecting and disrupting shooters. The off-the-shelf hardware was equipped with LaSalla's method of detecting firearms and bullets using WiFi sensors and electromagnetic waves, meant to detect a firearm on a person, determine whether it was loaded, and assess whether it posed a threat. In January 2022 it raised $3 million in seed financing at a $100 million valuation through a private placement from Canadian tech firm Wavv, earmarked for hiring and for reaching production by mid-year via logistics partner Arrow.
