Talentpad
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
TalentPad was an Indian online recruitment company run by Zobtree Ventures, focused specifically on helping organisations hire technology talent. It differentiated itself by solving hiring from the candidate's perspective rather than the employer's: the service was free for jobseekers while recruiters paid. Its clients included BookMyShow, MakeMyTrip, Snapdeal, InMobi and Capillary, and it had acquired the tech recruitment platform OptimizedBits.
02 / Talentpad FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
After 18 months of operations, the founders concluded the market opportunity in tech-focused recruitment was not large enough to build a scalable business. As co-founder Nikhil Vij put it, the team struggled to scale because the market they were playing in was relatively small, and the timing was not right for technology-focused recruitment companies in India.
