01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
QuickHaggle, founded by Bilal Ahmad, was an online barter community where users could exchange skills and services instead of cash - for example, a PHP developer trading development work for internet marketing. Users posted offers and haggled over terms, with the community built around the idea that skills, unlike money, can't be lost or stolen.
02 / QuickHaggle FAILURE REASONS
Why it failed
Like the ancient barter system it emulated, QuickHaggle ran into the 'double coincidence of wants' problem: it was extremely hard to find someone who both needed your service and could offer what you needed. After about a year of work, founder Bilal Ahmad shut it down - it never grew into a big user base.
