What the company did
First Cobalt Corp. was a Canadian mining and battery-materials company focused on cobalt for electric vehicle batteries. It owned a hydrometallurgical refinery in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, and the Iron Creek cobalt-copper project in Idaho. In December 2021 the company changed its name to Electra Battery Materials Corporation and continued developing North America's first battery-grade cobalt sulfate refinery, targeting commercial production in late 2027.
